A Portrait Project with The Inside Out Project
Real people. Real expressions. No pretending.
About the Project
This portrait series is part of The Inside Out Project—a global movement that uses photography to tell stories and create connection through public art.
Created by The Headshot & Portrait Guys, this project focuses on something simple but powerful: capturing people as they really are. No performance. No pressure. Just honest, human expression.

The Idea
Most people don’t feel comfortable in front of a camera.
They overthink it. They put on a version of themselves.
This project is about stripping that away.
Authentic expressions—the kind you don’t usually see in photos—are what we’re here to capture. The moment when someone stops trying and just is.
The People
This project will feature everyday Gold Coasters—people you’d pass on the street, grab coffee next to, or sit beside at the beach.
Just real people.
Each portrait represents a moment of honesty:
“I usually hate photos of myself… but this feels like me.”
The Experience
Every participant will be guided through a relaxed, simple process designed to remove the awkwardness most people feel in front of a camera.
No stiff posing. No forced smiles.
Just subtle direction to help people settle, feel comfortable, and express themselves naturally.
Because when people feel at ease, something real shows up.
The Outcome
This series is being developed for a potential gallery exhibition on the Gold Coast, transforming personal moments into a shared public experience.
Large-scale portraits.
Raw, direct eye contact.
A room full of real people, exactly as they are.
Why It Matters
In a world of curated images and filtered identities, authenticity stands out.
This project is a reminder that you don’t need to change how you look to be worth seeing—you just need the space to be yourself.
